DEEP SOUTH
“Deep South" is a statement of determination against frustrating odds. It was created during a time when I felt cornered by fate and questionable decisions. I’ve always loved primal grooves and “Deep South” revels in the raw gritty energy of urban Memphis and the Delta South. This was written with my dear friend and longtime songwriting pal, Mark Marchetti.
DEEP SOUTH lyrics
I’m at the end of my rope
Casting my last dreams on the Mercy Tree
I could use a little hope
To salvage what is left of the rest of me
I hadn’t seen much of myself lately
And I don’t like the little that I see
I’m going down
Even if I have to crawl
I’m going to bury this seed in the ground
Once and for all
I’m heading down to the Deep South
Heading down to the Deep South
Heading down to the Deep South
You know I’ve done what I could
And I can’t keep doing the same things anymore
I’m tired of knocking on wood
Luck just ain’t enough to open up that door
I hear a voice inside me sometimes saying
“Everything you start has gotta end”
I’m going down
Even if I have to crawl
I’m going to bury this seed in the ground
Once and for all
I’m heading down to the Deep South
Heading down to the Deep South
Heading down to the Deep South
(break)
I hadn’t seen much of myself lately
And I don’t like the little that I see
I’m going down
Even if I have to crawl
I’m going to bury this seed in the ground
Once and for all
I’m heading down to the Deep South
Heading down to the Deep South
Heading down to the Deep South
