Disco Slam - “Dreams Are Made Of Nights Like This”

“Dreams Are Made Of Nights Like This” was originally written as a straight-up dreamy Broadway kind of piano ballad. This melody was where I had my epiphany about how these kinds of sweeping non-rock melodies were tailor made for the disco groove. Suddenly it became this big sounding number in the studio. Sarina floats through this and builds to some powerful releases a couple of times and Carl Marsh’s orchestral treatments provide a lively cinematic palette of textures. Steve Ebe’s rock solid drums, Glen Caruba’s percolating Latin percussion, Alison Prestwood’s amazing visceral bass and Pat Buchanan’s concise funky guitar parts make for a killer track. I visualized the song wrapping with this Disney-esque deceptive cadence where dancers would be suspended momentarily and a memory would be made, like the title.
